The practice is currently engaged on a range of conservation and heritage-led commissions for public bodies, ecclesiastical organisations, and private clients.
Ongoing work includes confidential diplomatic appointments for several embassies; large-scale heritage survey and advisory work for public authorities, including national landscape bodies; residential adaptation and conversion projects for private developers; church reordering and repair works for parish clients; and carefully considered upgrades to listed and historic houses.

Michael Swords Studio began with a simple purpose: to use our skills to support church communities in the care, repair and sensitive adaptation of historic buildings.
That founding ethos remains central to the practice, but our work has since grown to include private listed houses, civic and cultural buildings, public-sector heritage commissions, diplomatic residences and sensitive development sites.
We are currently appointed by the Lake District National Park Authority to undertake condition surveys of all the listed buildings in the Lake District National Park, including over 2000 listed buildings, structures and monuments.
We support clients with listed homes and historic estates, guiding them to adapt, restore, or extend their properties in ways that honour their history and secure their future.

From quinquennial inspections to full reordering projects, we work alongside clergy, PCCs, and fabric committees to deliver sensitive design, guide clients through the faculty process, and provide clear heritage advice. We value the opportunity to use our skills in conservation and design to help communities.
We enjoy collaborating with other architecture practices and interior designers as heritage consultant or conservation architect, adding value through technical knowledge, report writing, and statutory strategy.
